To reduce the barrier to entry, Parcel Path eschewed the addition of a subscription fee. Thus, the company needs to stay lean in terms of staffing and operating costs.
"We are unique because we have a free model," he said.
The process for using Parcel Path simply involves registering on the website, filling out shipping information, purchasing the label on a credit card and then printing it out.
The company is also working on a barcode alternative so that customers won't have to print out labels.
For a package with standard dimensions and weighing five pounds, Parcel Path notes that customers can save around $80-$100 for overnight shipping, $60-$80 for two-day shipping and $9-$10 for regular shipping by using its platform.
"There's gonna be billions of dollars spent in the next two months on shipping. People are looking for ways to save. It's a really good resource for everyone," Lemm said.
Yuri Sernande, the chief technology officer who joined the company about a year ago, said he was impressed with how quickly Parcel Path was able to develop its software and establish certification with UPS. And he believes the future is bright for the company.
"We really want to tell the tech world in shipping that we're an Oregon company, we're very uniquely positioned and we've bootstrapped our way into this," Sernande said.
